- 1,500 W × 6 h × 1 ÷ 1000 = 9 kWh
- 9 × 30 × ₹7 = ₹1,890
How to use
- Enter the power in watts from the label (1.5 ton AC about 1,500 W).
- Enter hours used per day, quantity and days in the month.
- Enter your rate per unit (₹/kWh) to see the cost.
Good to know
Units (kWh) = watts × hours × quantity ÷ 1000. Cost = units × rate. A 1,500 W AC for 6 hours a day uses 9 units a day, 270 a month, ₹1,890 a month at ₹7 per unit.
Rated watts are the maximum. Inverter ACs, fridges and water heaters with thermostats run below rating most of the time, so real use is often lower; the BEE star label gives a yearly kWh figure that is closer to reality.
For the rate, divide your last bill’s total by its units for an all-in average, or use the slab rate you usually reach. Typical wattage: ceiling fan 50–75 W (BLDC 28–35 W), LED bulb 9 W, TV 60–120 W, fridge 100–250 W, geyser 2,000 W, iron 1,000 W.
Questions
How many units does a 1.5 ton AC use in a month?
About 1.2–1.7 kW while the compressor runs. At 1.5 kW for 6 hours, 9 units a day or about 270 a month; inverter models often use less.
How much does a geyser cost per month?
A 2,000 W geyser running 1 hour a day uses 60 units a month, about ₹420 at ₹7 per unit.
What rate should I enter?
Your bill total ÷ units gives an all-in average including fixed charge and duty.
Is rated wattage the real consumption?
It is the maximum. Thermostat and inverter appliances usually average less.
How do I find the wattage?
On the rating plate or box. If it shows amps, watts ≈ 230 × amps × power factor.
