Good to know
In an uptrend the price is measured back down from the high: level = high − (high − low) × ratio. In a downtrend it is measured up from the low: level = low + (high − low) × ratio. For a move from ₹1,000 to ₹1,250, the 61.8% retracement is ₹1,095.50.
Extensions project the move past the swing in the trend direction: 127.2% and 161.8% of the range from the low (uptrend) or from the high (downtrend). 50% is not a Fibonacci ratio but traders watch it too.
Pick clear swing points; different swings give different levels. Retracement levels are zones many traders watch, not predictions. This is an estimate for learning, not investment advice.
Questions
How are Fibonacci retracement levels calculated?
Multiply the range between the swing high and low by each ratio and subtract it from the high (uptrend) or add it to the low (downtrend).
Which Fibonacci level is most important?
Traders watch 38.2%, 50% and 61.8% most often. 61.8% is called the golden ratio.
What is the difference between retracement and extension?
Retracements are pullbacks inside the move; extensions are possible targets beyond it.
Can I use it for Nifty and stocks?
Yes, for any chart: index, stock, commodity or currency.
Do the levels guarantee a reversal?
No. Price often moves straight through them. Use them with other analysis and a stop loss.
