Basic Calculator Online

A simple four-function calculator with large keys, percentages and memory. Your recent sums stay in the History panel.

How to use

  1. Tap the numbers and + − × ÷, or type them on your keyboard.
  2. Press = to see the answer. Keep going from it: pressing an operator next continues from the answer.
  3. Use M+ to add the answer to memory, MR to recall it and MC to clear it.

Good to know

Sums follow the usual order: × and ÷ before + and −, so 2 + 3 × 4 = 14 (not 20). The display shows the answer while you type, so you can catch a mistake before pressing =.

Percentages work the way shopkeepers use them: 1,200 + 18% = 1,416 (adds 18% GST), 2,500 − 10% = 2,250 (takes 10% discount), and 50 × 8% = 4. Use ± to change the sign of the last number and ⌫ to delete one key.

Memory keys help with running totals, such as adding up a bill item by item: work out each line, press M+, then MR at the end. Memory and history last until you reload or close the page; only the decimal-place setting is remembered on this device. For trig, powers and logs use the scientific calculator.

Questions

How do I add GST with this calculator?

Type the price, then + 18% and press =. For example 1000 + 18% = 1,180. To take a discount, use − instead.

Why does 2 + 3 × 4 give 14?

Multiplication is done before addition (BODMAS). Press = after 2 + 3 first if you want 5 × 4 = 20.

What do M+ and MR do?

M+ adds the current answer to a memory total, M− subtracts it, MR puts the memory total into your sum and MC sets it to zero. An M on the display shows that memory is not empty.

Can I set the number of decimal places?

Yes. Choose Auto, 2, 4, 6 or 10 decimal places in the panel. Auto shows up to 12 significant digits.

Does it work offline?

Once the page has loaded, every sum is worked out on your phone or computer. Nothing is sent anywhere.
