Code 128 Barcode Generator: Free Code 128 for Labels and Inventory

Code 128 is the most useful barcode for your own labels: it holds letters, numbers and symbols, stays short, and every scanner reads it. Type your SKU, invoice or asset number and download.

How to use

  1. Type your value: any letters, numbers and common symbols (for example INV-2026/0042).
  2. Choose bar height and width; keep the margin at the sides.
  3. Download PNG, SVG or a PDF label, or use the bulk generator for a whole list.

Good to know

Code 128 encodes all 128 ASCII characters and switches automatically to a compact mode for long runs of digits, so numbers like order IDs stay small.

A built-in check character protects every Code 128 barcode; it is not printed in the text. Use GS1-128 (also in the list) when a buyer needs GS1 Application Identifiers.

For long values make the bars wider rather than narrower: 0.33 mm or more prints reliably on thermal label printers.

Questions

Can Code 128 hold Hindi?

No. It is limited to ASCII (English letters, digits and symbols). For Hindi use a QR code or Data Matrix.

How long can a Code 128 barcode be?

There is no fixed limit, but keep it under about 20–25 characters so the barcode fits your label and scans easily.

Code 128 or Code 39?

Code 128 is shorter for the same data and supports lower-case letters. Use Code 39 only if an old system requires it.

Do I need GS1 for Code 128?

No. Plain Code 128 is free for any internal use. GS1-128 is for supply-chain labels with GS1 numbers.

Can I make many at once?

Yes, use the bulk barcode generator with a list or CSV.
