Good to know
Square units use the square of the length factor: 1 sq ft = 0.3048² = 0.09290304 m², 1 sq yard (gaj) = 9 sq ft = 0.83612736 m², 1 acre = 43,560 sq ft = 4,046.86 m² and 1 hectare = 10,000 m² = 2.471 acres.
Indian units with fixed sizes: cent (Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra) = 1/100 acre = 435.6 sq ft; guntha (Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana) = 1/40 acre = 1,089 sq ft; ground (Chennai) = 2,400 sq ft. In parts of Bihar and West Bengal the same 435.6 sq ft unit is called a decimal (dismil).
Bigha, biswa, kanal and marla are not included because they differ from state to state. Flat sizes: carpet area, built-up area and super built-up area are different numbers for the same flat; RERA requires carpet area to be stated.
