How to use

  1. Enter the amount invested and the monthly withdrawal you want.
  2. Enter the expected yearly return and how many years you will withdraw.
  3. Add a yearly increase in withdrawals under More options to allow for inflation.

Good to know

Each month the corpus grows at the yearly return ÷ 12 and then the withdrawal is taken out. If the withdrawal is less than what the corpus earns, the balance keeps growing; if more, the balance shrinks and may run out.

A sustainable SWP usually takes out no more than the expected return minus inflation. For example, withdrawing 6% a year from a fund expected to earn 8% leaves room to raise withdrawals slowly.

SWP from mutual funds is taxed only on the gain part of each redemption, not the whole amount, which often makes it more tax-efficient than FD interest. Returns are not fixed, and a fall early in the plan hurts more than one later.

Questions

What is an SWP?

A systematic withdrawal plan redeems a fixed amount from a mutual fund every month or quarter, giving a regular income.

How much can I withdraw safely?

Many planners keep yearly withdrawals at 4%–6% of the corpus for long periods. Use the calculator to test your numbers.

Is SWP better than an FD for monthly income?

It can be more tax-efficient, but returns are not guaranteed. An FD or POMIS gives fixed income.

Does it include tax and exit load?

No. Exit loads usually apply only in the first year.

Is my data stored?

No. Everything is calculated on your device.
