Good to know
Boxes = room area × (1 + wastage) ÷ area per box, rounded up. Cost is worked out on the boxes you actually buy, because shops sell full boxes.
Wastage: about 5–8% for planks laid straight in a simple room, 10–15% for diagonal laying, many corners or patterned vinyl. Leave a 8–10 mm expansion gap at the walls for laminate; skirting hides it.
Skirting length = room perimeter minus the door width. Underlay, trims, adhesive and labour are extra. Laminate and vinyl prices in India vary widely by thickness and wear class (AC rating), so use your dealer’s quote.
Questions
How many boxes of laminate for a 12×10 ft room?
120 sq ft + 8% = 129.6 sq ft. With boxes of 24 sq ft that is 5.4, so 6 boxes.
How much wastage for laminate?
5–8% for straight laying in a rectangular room; 10–15% for diagonal or rooms with many corners.
Is skirting included in box area?
No. Skirting is sold by running length; this tool gives the length.
Does the cost include fitting?
No. It is material only, calculated on full boxes. Add underlay, trims and labour.
Can I use it for tiles?
Use the Tile calculator for tiles; it counts pieces and tiles per box.
