UPC Barcode Generator: UPC-A and UPC-E Barcodes Free

Selling on Amazon US or exporting to North America? Make a UPC-A (12-digit) or compact UPC-E barcode here; the check digit is calculated for you.

How to use

  1. Type 11 digits for UPC-A (or 12 to verify), or switch to UPC-E in the list for the short 8-digit form.
  2. Watch the message under the box: it shows the check digit or what to fix.
  3. Download PNG at 300/600 DPI, SVG or a PDF label for your packaging.

Good to know

UPC-A holds 12 digits: a number-system digit, a company prefix, an item number and a check digit (GS1 mod-10). Scanners also read it as a 13-digit EAN starting with 0.

UPC-E squeezes certain UPC-A numbers with many zeros into 8 digits for small packs. Only numbers that follow the zero-suppression rules can be written as UPC-E.

Real EAN/UPC/GTIN numbers must be licensed from GS1 India (or your country's GS1 office). This tool only draws the barcode for a number you already own; it does not issue numbers.

Questions

What is the difference between UPC and EAN?

UPC-A is the 12-digit North American format; EAN-13 is the 13-digit international one. Modern scanners read both.

Can I use UPC in India?

Indian retail uses EAN-13 (prefix 890). Use UPC only if a US/Canadian buyer asks for it.

Where do I get UPC numbers?

From GS1 (GS1 India for Indian companies). Each GS1 company prefix can be used to make UPC-A numbers.

Why is my UPC-E rejected?

UPC-E must start with 0 or 1 and have 6–8 digits. Not every UPC-A number can be shortened.

Does the barcode include the check digit?

Yes. It is added automatically and printed under the bars.
