Good to know
The Indian system groups digits as 1,00,00,000 and names them thousand, lakh (1,00,000) and crore (1,00,00,000). The international system groups by three (10,000,000) with thousand, million and billion. So 1,20,000 is "one lakh twenty thousand" or "one hundred twenty thousand".
Cheque format writes "Rupees One Lakh Twenty Thousand and Fifty Paise Only". Paise are rounded to 2 decimals. Writing "Only" at the end and starting close to the left edge makes it harder for anyone to add words later.
Very large numbers repeat crore: 1,00,000 crore is written "one lakh crore" (as in budget speeches). Numbers up to 18 digits are converted exactly, without rounding.
