PDF to Text: Extract Text from a PDF

Get the words out of a PDF so you can paste them into an email, a document or a form.

How to use

  1. Choose a PDF.
  2. Tap Extract text. Keep Mark where each page starts on if you want page markers.
  3. Copy the text or download it as a .txt file.

Good to know

The tool reads the text that is stored inside the PDF, page by page, and keeps line breaks and paragraph gaps where it can. Tables and multi-column layouts come out as plain lines, so check the order before reusing them.

Scanned PDFs and photos of documents contain pictures of text, not text. For those the tool shows that no text was found: reading scans needs OCR (optical character recognition), which is not available here yet.

Hindi text comes out correctly when the PDF was made with Unicode fonts. Older files typed in legacy fonts such as Krutidev show as garbled English letters, because the PDF stores those characters that way. The .txt file is saved as UTF-8.

Questions

Why does it say no text was found?

Your PDF is probably a scan or a photo. It holds images, not text, and needs OCR, which is not available yet.

Does it work with Hindi PDFs?

Yes, if the PDF uses Unicode Hindi. PDFs typed in old fonts like Krutidev give garbled letters.

Will tables keep their columns?

No. Text comes out line by line; tables become plain rows of words.

Is there a page limit?

No fixed limit. Very large PDFs take longer on older phones.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The text is extracted in your browser.
