Good to know
Final price = price × (1 − discount ÷ 100). With an extra discount, it is applied on the already reduced price: ₹2,499 with 20% off becomes ₹1,999.20, and a further 10% off makes it ₹1,799.28.
"20% + 10% off" is not 30% off. The effective discount is 1 − 0.8 × 0.9 = 28%. Sellers often show stacked offers this way, so the effective figure helps you compare deals.
In India the MRP already includes GST, so the discounted price is what you pay unless the seller adds delivery or convenience fees. Bank-card cashback usually comes later and is not part of the bill. Results are estimates; check the bill before you pay.
Questions
How do I calculate a discount?
Multiply the price by the discount % and subtract it. 20% off ₹2,499 is ₹499.80 off, so you pay ₹1,999.20.
Is 20% + 10% the same as 30% off?
No, it is 28%. The second discount applies to the reduced price.
How do I find the discount % from two prices?
Discount % = (original − sale price) ÷ original × 100. Enter that number here to check.
Does the discount apply before or after GST?
On MRP-tagged goods GST is already inside the price, so the discount applies to the full price you pay.
