How to use
- Enter average monthly units from your bills.
- Check peak sun hours for your city (4.5–5.5 in most of India) and panel wattage.
- See system size, panels and roof area.
Good to know
System kW = daily units ÷ (peak sun hours × (1 − losses)). Daily units = monthly ÷ 30. With 300 units a month, 5 sun hours and 20% losses (heat, dust, wiring, inverter), you need about 2.5 kW; with 540 W panels that is 5 panels (2.7 kW).
MNRE’s consumer FAQ (checked 27 Oct 2026) says 1 kWp generates about 4 to 5.5 units a day on a clear day and needs about 10 m² of shadow-free roof. Peak sun hours vary by region and season; Rajasthan and Gujarat are higher, the north-east and monsoon months lower.
Under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (as checked on 27 Oct 2026), central subsidy for homes is ₹30,000 per kW up to 2 kW, ₹18,000 for the third kW, capped at ₹78,000 for 3 kW and above. Subsidy, net-metering rules and approvals come from your DISCOM and the national portal; check current terms there.
