Good to know
Rates used, as of 27 Oct 2026. STT: delivery 0.1% on buy and sell; intraday 0.025% on sell; futures 0.05% on sell; options 0.15% of premium on sell (the futures and options rates were raised in Union Budget 2026 from 1 April 2026). NSE transaction charges: 0.00307% cash, 0.00183% futures, 0.03553% of option premium (NSE circular NSE/FA/73061, 27 Feb 2026). BSE: 0.00375% cash, nil on futures, 0.0325% on Sensex/Bankex option premium.
SEBI turnover fee is ₹10 per crore. Stamp duty is charged on the buy side only: 0.015% delivery, 0.003% intraday and options, 0.002% futures. GST at 18% applies to brokerage + exchange charges + SEBI fee, not to STT or stamp duty. Breakeven points = total charges ÷ quantity: the price move you need just to cover costs.
Exchanges and the government change these rates, so every rate is an editable input. Brokers also round STT and may add DP charges on delivery sells (not included here), call-and-trade fees or charges on exercised options. This is an estimate for planning, not investment advice; trading in F&O carries a high risk of loss.
Questions
What is STT on options now?
0.15% of the premium on the sell side, from 1 April 2026 (up from 0.1%). If you hold a bought option to expiry and it is exercised, STT is 0.15% of the intrinsic value.
Why do I pay charges even with zero brokerage?
STT, exchange transaction charges, SEBI fee, stamp duty and GST are statutory or exchange charges. Every broker passes them on.
What does "points to breakeven" mean?
How much the price must move in your favour just to pay all charges. Below that you make a loss even on a winning trade.
Are DP charges included?
No. Depository charges apply when you sell shares from your demat (delivery) and are usually a flat amount per scrip per day, set by your broker and depository.
Are these the exact charges on my contract note?
Close, but not exact: brokers round some charges and may have extra fees. Always check your contract note.
