Good to know

UK units = volume in ml × ABV % ÷ 1,000. One unit is 10 ml (8 g) of pure alcohol. A 650 ml bottle of strong beer at 8% is 5.2 units; a 30 ml peg of whisky at 42.8% is about 1.3 units.

India has no official standard-drink size. The WHO uses about 10 g of pure alcohol as a standard drink, which is roughly one 30 ml "small" peg of 42.8% spirit. Grams = ml × ABV ÷ 100 × 0.789. Alcohol also has about 7 kcal per gram.

The UK Chief Medical Officers advise no more than 14 units a week, spread over 3 or more days, with some alcohol-free days. There is no completely safe level: WHO notes risk rises with every drink. Do not drink in pregnancy, before driving, or with medicines that interact. For help, call the Tele-MANAS helpline 14416.
