How to use
- Enter each investment as a negative amount with its date, e.g. 2024-01-10, -5000.
- Enter withdrawals and the current value as positive amounts, with dates.
- Read the XIRR and check the table to confirm every line was read correctly.
Good to know
XIRR is the yearly rate at which the present value of all cash flows adds up to zero: Σ amount ÷ (1 + XIRR)^(days from first date ÷ 365) = 0. It uses a 365-day year, the same as spreadsheet XIRR, so results match Excel or Google Sheets.
The calculator solves it with Newton's method and falls back to a bisection search if that does not settle, so even unusual cash flows give an answer when one exists. Dates can be written as yyyy-mm-dd or dd-mm-yyyy; amounts may include ₹ and commas.
XIRR is the right measure for SIPs, top-ups and partial withdrawals because each rupee is counted only for the time it was invested. Fund statements and apps show this as XIRR or "annualised return".
Questions
What is XIRR?
The extended internal rate of return: a yearly return that accounts for the date of every investment and withdrawal.
How do I enter a SIP?
One line per instalment, e.g. 2024-01-05, -5000, then a last line with today's date and the current value as a positive number.
Why does it say it needs a negative and a positive amount?
XIRR needs money going in and money coming out (or the current value) to find a rate.
Is XIRR the same as CAGR?
For a single investment and a single value they are the same. With several cash flows, only XIRR is correct.
Is my data stored?
No. The cash flows are read only on your device.
