How to use
- Type your ISBN with its hyphens, exactly as on your ISBN allotment (ISBN-10 or ISBN-13).
- Optionally add a 5-digit price add-on after a space (e.g. 90000 for no price).
- Download SVG or PDF for your cover designer, or PNG at 600 DPI.
Good to know
A book barcode is an EAN-13 that starts with 978 or 979. An old 10-digit ISBN is converted to 13 digits and gets a new check digit.
The line above the bars shows the ISBN with hyphens; the hyphens mark the registration groups, so type them as given on your allotment. Without hyphens we use a neutral grouping.
In India ISBNs are free from the Raja Rammohun Roy National Agency for ISBN. This tool only draws the barcode; it cannot issue an ISBN.
Questions
Where do I get an ISBN in India?
Apply online to the Raja Rammohun Roy National Agency for ISBN (Ministry of Education). It is free for Indian publishers and authors.
ISBN-10 or ISBN-13?
Barcodes always use ISBN-13. Type either; ISBN-10 is converted for you.
What is the 5-digit add-on?
An optional price code used mainly in the US (first digit = currency, e.g. 5 for US$). 90000 means no price.
What size should the barcode be on the cover?
About 37 × 26 mm at 100% is standard; do not shrink below 80%. Keep the white margin around it.
My ISBN shows a check digit error.
Check the number on your allotment letter; one digit is probably mistyped. The message shows what the last digit should be.
