Good to know
Since the 1959 international yard and pound agreement, imperial lengths are defined in metres: 1 inch = 2.54 cm exactly, 1 foot = 12 inches = 30.48 cm, 1 yard = 3 feet = 91.44 cm and 1 mile = 1,760 yards = 1.609344 km.
In India, height is often said in feet and inches, plot sides in feet, road distances in kilometres and cloth in metres. Builders and land records may say "gaj" for a yard of length or, more often, a square yard of area.
Results show up to 10 significant digits, so tiny rounding noise from computer arithmetic is hidden. Choose 2, 4 or 8 decimal places if you need a fixed format.
