Good to know
Each UUID is version 4 as defined in RFC 9562: 122 random bits from your browser's cryptographic random generator (crypto.getRandomValues), with the version digit set to 4 and the variant bits set correctly. They look like 3f2b8c1e-9d4a-4c6f-8b2e-1a7d5c9e0f34.
With 122 random bits, the chance of two UUIDs ever matching is so small that you can treat them as unique without checking a central list, even across many systems.
UUIDs are not secret and not meant as passwords or security tokens; they only need to be unique. "GUID" is Microsoft's name for the same format. Some systems store UUIDs without hyphens or in capitals, so use the switches to match your database.
Questions
Are these UUIDs truly unique?
They are random version 4 UUIDs; a duplicate is practically impossible.
What is the difference between UUID and GUID?
Nothing in practice; GUID is Microsoft's name for a UUID.
Can I use a UUID as a password?
No. Use the password generator for secrets.
Do you keep the UUIDs you generate?
No. They are created in your browser and never sent anywhere.
Which version is this?
Version 4 (random). Time-based versions (1, 7) are not offered here.
