Car and bike specs in India give torque in N·m. Older manuals use kgf·m (1 kgf·m = 9.80665 N·m).

How to use

  1. Type the value in the From unit.
  2. Pick the unit to convert to (it starts on kgf·m). Search by name or symbol.
  3. Read the result, or tap any row in the full table to switch the target unit.

Good to know

Torque = force × lever arm. 1 kgf·m = 9.80665 N·m, 1 lbf·ft = 1.35582 N·m and 1 kgf·cm = 0.0980665 N·m (common on small servo motors).

Indian car and bike brochures give torque in N·m (for example 200 N·m = 20.4 kgf·m = 147.5 lbf·ft). Older service manuals may use kgf·m.

Torque (N·m) and energy (J) have the same base units but mean different things, so they are kept in separate converters.

Questions

How many N·m is 1 kgf·m?

9.80665 N·m.

How many lb·ft is 100 N·m?

73.76 lbf·ft.

What is kgf·cm used for?

Small motors and servos, e.g. a 10 kgf·cm servo gives 0.98 N·m.

Is lb·ft the same as ft·lb?

For torque, yes; both mean pound-force times feet.

Is anything I type sent to a server?

No. The conversion runs on your device and nothing is stored.
